Service Categories

This screen lets you organize the service categories your business uses, in a nested tree (a category can have sub-categories underneath it), and create, edit, or delete any category.

What you can do here

  • Browse the category tree. The left panel (or the "Tree" button on smaller screens) lists every category. Click a folder to open it, or click "All categories" to reset to the top level. Categories with sub-categories show a count and can be expanded or collapsed.
  • Drill into a category. Clicking a category card, or one of its sub-category chips, filters the grid to that category's children. A breadcrumb trail at the top tracks where you are, and a header card shows the current category's name, ref code, and sub-category count with its own Edit and Delete buttons.
  • Search. Use the "Search categories…" box to find a category by name.
  • Create a category. Use "New Category" to open the form.
  • Edit or delete a category. Each card has pencil (edit) and trash (delete) icons. Delete is disabled, with a tooltip explaining why, if the category still has sub-categories: you have to remove those first.
  • Other toolbar actions include filtering to root-level categories only and a maintenance action to fix category breadcrumbs.

Steps

  1. To add a category: click New Category, fill in Name, Ref Code, Parent Category, Description, Display Order, and optionally Tags, Terms and Policies, a Google Merchant Category ID, and a photo, then click Submit.
  2. To edit a category: click the pencil icon on its card (or the Edit button on the header card when you're inside it), update the fields, and submit.
  3. To delete a category: click the trash icon (or the Delete button on the header card) and confirm. If it has sub-categories, remove or move those first.
  4. To move deeper into the structure: click a category card or one of its sub-category chips to see what's inside it.
